2020 moved to 2021

Dear Jan Braai Marathon Entrant

‘It is with a heavy heart’ most likely tells you the critical part of what you now expect the below to say. And you are right. So it’s with a light heart that I will bullet point the details.
  • Due to the dehydrated muscle, wet braai wood, torn calf, warm white wine, sprained ankle, melted ice, lost left sock, burnt meat, chafed nipple, pap snoek, flat battery and upset stomach state of the current world, we have taken the decision to postpone what would have been this year’s Jan Braai Marathon that would have take place on 16 – 18 October 2020 with exactly one year to 15 – 17 October 2021.

  • All entries are carried over with no additional charge but there is also a refund option.
  • The Jan Braai Marathon takes place on the third weekend of October, and the one in question was thus moved from the third weekend of October 2020 to the third weekend of October 2021.
  • This decision was not taken lightly and followed a lengthy process of myself going through the five stages of grief as described in the Kübler Ross model being denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.
  • Whilst entirely my responsibility this decision was made in consultation with all the property stakeholders (wine farms, wine farmers and wine cellars) whose properties and cellars we visit during the 42km over the three days as well as the ATKV Goudini Spa where the event village is based.
  • I simply don’t know whether we can or will be able to host what we promised you and more importantly do we know whether you will be able to or want to attend this year.
  • Your entry fee is safe and as a default position was transferred in full to 2021 so as it stands, you are entered for the event under all the same conditions, the event is just taking place on 15-17 October 2021 at the same price of your current entry. All information for the next Jan Braai Marathon taking place on 15 – 17 October 2021 is available at www.janbraaimarathon.com; your 2020 entry is a valid 2021 entry and we are currently taking additional entries and they are about halfway to sold out.
  • Alternatively you have the option of a full refund but as entries for the 2021 event are open and rolling in this is simply not our default position. Nonetheless, if you entered for 2020 and would like to take a step back there will be no penalty whatsoever. Simply send an email to info@braai.com with your banking details and all the money you paid us will come back to you via EFT. We don’t have some automated refund system so a real person will sit and manually EFT you thus it might take a few days. You are dealing with real people, the same type you met at the Jan Braai Marathon in 2019 and the same ones you will see again in 2021.
  • We have a few individuals on payment plans. Your entry fee is safe and as a default position was transferred in full to 2021 so as it stands, you are entered for the event under all the same conditions, the event is just taking place on 15-17 October 2021 at the same price of your current entry. For the few of you with outstanding instalments, you are now on a payment holiday until March 2021 when you can top up the rest of your full entry fee. Alternatively, although our rules say no refund on deposits, we’re letting go of that rule. If you want all your money back, send us your banking details and you’re getting a full refund of all payment plan payments thus far.
  • Accommodation booking deposits paid at ATKV Goudini: Their default position is that if you paid a deposit your booking was automatically moved to the same weekend in October 2021 when the event now takes place. So a Friday night booking moved to the corresponding Friday and a Saturday night booking to the corresponding Saturday night of the Marathon. If they hear nothing from you your booking for the third weekend of 2021 stands and you are getting the 2021 accommodation at 2020 prices. If you want to cancel this 2020 booking that was now moved to 2021 please send an email to konfgo@atkv.org.za. Please note that if you already paid a deposit your cheapest solution is to do nothing as doing nothing means you get your 2021 weekend accommodation at 2020 prices and you don’t lose the cancellation fee that ATKV Goudini will charge you. You only need to email them if you already paid a deposit, don’t want your booking moved to 2021 and want that deposit minus their admin fees back.
  • If you have any questions please carefully reread this email tomorrow and if you still have questions then read it again the day thereafter. If after that you still have a question, let us know and hopefully we can help you.
